With Grand Theft Auto 6's release on the horizon and the Netflix gameplay deep dive happening on Thursday, we will be seeing a lot of details about GTA 6 in the upcoming months. As avid open-world game fans and legacy players of the GTA franchise, here are 5 questions the Kodiye team hopes to get answered this Thursday.
1. How much of the game's buildings and interiors are actually explorable?
So we know the map for GTA 6 is likely to be larger than those in previous Rockstar games, but we’re more interested in how many buildings or interiors are actually explorable. We know we'll be able to enter gas stations, restaurants, clothing stores, car shops, gun shops, player homes, and some buildings related to activities such as strip clubs, comedy shows etc. because thats been a staple of every gta game for the past like 21 years but we're curious how they expand on these and allow us to explore even more interiors than previous games.
2. How has the interaction between the player and NPCs expanded?
The most important element in making a digital world feel immersive is by deepening the interaction between players and NPCs. It doesn't matter how realistic a game's open world is visually if NPCs don't interact with the world itself or react to what the player is doing in a way that creates the illusion that the NPCs have a mind of their own (even though they don't). For example, in Bethesda's Oblivion, I loved the fact that NPCs had full day and night cycles as well as the ability to discuss current events often unrelated to the player. In Grand Theft Auto 4, I was blown away by the fact that cops could arrest NPCs, and the fact that Nikos friends would call him often when they wanted to hang out, not when you wanted to (like in real life). These are small little interactions that help create the illusion that you're in a living, breathing world. I wonder how Rockstar plans to push the genre forward with how complex the interactions between the player and the NPCs can get.
3. Are there any unique gameplay experiences between Jason and Lucia?
Jason and Lucia are the game's two protagonist and like with GTA 5, you will likely be swapping back and forth between the two throughout the story. I'm curious if there are any gameplay differences between the two characters. In GTA 5, a small but subtle difference between the three characters was that the police harassed franklin faster than the other two characters for obvious reasons. Will there be subtle gameplay differences like that for Jason and Lucia? Will cops and other NPCs be nicer to Lucia because she's a woman? Will Jason or Lucia get access to more job activities because of their gender and background? Either way, we hope that Rockstar makes playing either gender unique and interesting in various ways.
4. When should we expect to see information regarding GTA 6 online and the PC version?
Like with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, the online portion of GTA 6 won't be available at launch. The question we have is: will there be any details about GTA Online in the Netflix showcase on Thursday? I’m not expecting a full gameplay deep dive for GTA Online on top of the gameplay deep dive of the main game, but we do hope to hear something about it, even if it's just a time frame for its possible release. Same goes for the PC port; hopefully we hear details on how soon we can expect that version to drop after the initial release.
5. Was everything they showed from previous trailers really from a base PS5
And finally, we want to hear details about the game's performance across the different PS5 models, primarily the base PS5. This is important because the majority of players will be playing the game on a base PS5, and it would be a disaster if that version of the game is a significantly compromised experience compared to the PS5 Pro version of the game.
